Remembering Day

How do you feel about birthdays? Do you look forward with a sense of excitement about what the next year will bring? Do you love exploring who you are today and who you are becoming? Or are birthdays a type of torture for you? Do you fear growing older? Do you compare yourself to what others are doing, saying or are focused on?
I can tell you right now I intend to live this life full out! Some of my birthday heroes are:
- Connie Reeves, a cowgirl hall of famer – who died at age 101 after being bucked off her horse.
- The 90 year old team roper who is still participating in roping events.
- My friend’s 98 year old French grandmother who died after making the full Thanksgiving dinner – after re-baking a pie (because the top had a wrinkle on it) she decided to take a short nap…
Life is about living and certainly about living it your own way. I have a practice of reviewing my last year. This is not about judgment or deciding if it was a good experience or a bad. The question I ask and answer – Did I go for it? Did I live full out? And then I create my new year dreams and wants.
I believe each of us on this planet is on our very own IEP (In special education language it means “individual education plan”). Our life path, what lies in our heart and who we are, is individual to each of us. Instead of trying to be like, act like or look like someone else, it is up to us to be ourselves.
At dinner the other night a woman asked me what “yee haws” was I going to do this year? She wanted to give me her list and I declined saying I’d create my own list, thank you. She wanted to give me several opinions about how I should spend the next year. Finally I turned and asked her if she had done the things she wanted me to do. She said no. I asked her why not. As it turned out she was far more interested in my life than her own.
I believe b-days are remembering days. They are an opportunity to remember what is in our heart. And if we have forgotten it is a time to reconnect with the life that is calling us. It is up to each one of us to live each day. And to live the day with no regrets.
How do you want to spend this year of your life? Are you playing it safe or playing full out? I for one want to play hard and be put away spent…
I choose to live today inspired – from the old meaning – to be breathed by God – I commit to live even more fully in the moment – And to be awake and willing to step into the fullness of life in this moment!
