The Edge

I am sure you have heard the saying; – “come to the edge and leap – either steps will appear or you will learn how to fly” ~ and what I have noticed is that first you have to get to the edge. For me, the leap of faith has always held some fear as well as excitement. I too have felt the dark clouds gather and the lighten strike. “If I could just ignore the call for a while longer”….. or “what if I take another leap and it doesn’t work out again?” or “what if it is too hard?”
And…. Even facing the badlands…my soul has always won. I have taken the leap and a new journey always unfolds. I just wish that leaps had maps.
A new leap is brewing in me. I can feel it growing. I find myself digging out all my creative materials, journaling, selecting images and words for my new collage. Sometimes I have the vision before I collect the materials, and sometimes I have to feel my way into the vision. What I do know is my Soul is hungry.
As we go into December, the darkest month of the year, the time of inner reflection; I am wondering if the edge is calling you? Is there a stirring? A call to a new leap?
Life is meant to be a journey. Often we start out with great enthusiasm for the trip, but circumstances and our limited ideas cause us to pitch a tent in the valley of confusion, despair and disillusionment. What starts out as a temporary camping spot turns into squatter’s rights. Then we start to tell stories about why we can’t possibly move on and the more we tell the stories, the more we believe them. We say things like.. I don’t have the right degree; I’m too old; I don’t have the perfect location; what would other people think of me if I failed… And it goes on and on.
A new year is just around the corner. Where do you want to be a year from now? What commitments are you willing to make to be some place different? Are you willing to make the leap?
I recommend as part of your tool kit for the new year – a book:
The Wishing Year – A House, A Man, My Soul by Noelle Oxenhandler – it is definitely a great traveling companion!
Until next time,
