Touched by Love

Horses find it easy to scratch the mutual itch.  If only humans could be so generous with each other. Yes, it is easy to be present to those we know and include in our inner circle and far more difficult to entertain the possibility of extending connection to those we don’t know or who may not share our views.

“So it really manifests this way: at first sight, we find love; at our first true seeing, the love that is already there touches us.”
– Mark Nepo

How do we really see others?  Do we mentally categorize people into separate little boxes as in: the in group, the out group and the maybe group?

Sometimes when we put up walls and fences we actually defend against the possibility of being touched by love. I have been contemplating what it feels like to take down the fences and become available to love from all possibilities.  As I continue to grow beyond my own insecurities, I find that I am seeing love in new ways.

For me, to be touched by love means that I am open, available and willing to receive.  It also means I am willing to be vulnerable and undefended.  It is still a practice for me, and what I am discovering is that more love is available than I ever imagined.

February is the poster month for love  – are you willing to be touched by love in new ways? I invite you to explore and expand your willingness to see love in new ways.  I’d love to hear the results of your explorations.  How about leaving a comment or dropping a note and sharing your insights?

Happy Trails

“Sometimes when we put up walls and fences we actually defend against the possibility of being touched by love.” That was my favorite sentence from this writing. In an effort to protect ourselves from “bad” we protect ourselves from “good”.
