Focusing on the Right End of Things

My work really is about helping humans focus on the right end of things. So now I suppose you are laughing.  Yes, the heart is in the horse’s butt.  I know this is a double entendre.

In the horse world people tend to focus on the horse’s head.  Many times riders in advertently grab onto and into the horse’s mouth not intending connection, but instead safety and control.  Or in competition language of the show world, coerce or force the animal into a position of submission for personal gain though leverage disregarding the pain and damage force causes in the horse’s mouth, jaw and even hocks.

Strong language I know.  And I want that to sink in.

My mission in life is to heal the hands that touch the future by providing the tools of connection and the art of relationship.

In the horse show world I have watched amateurs try to imitate professionals by using gimmicks to get results.  The problem with imitation is that you never get to the foundational understanding of how things really work.

So pardon me if you already know this.  Humor me.  From structural analysis, riders must learn to control the hindquarters.  Partnership, beauty and grace come from engaging the hind end of the horse.  It is form, function and magic.  The riding partnership begins with the rider not only understanding the mind of the horse but also the physics of movement and balance.

It is like that in human relationships too.  We can’t force beauty or partnership; or control anyone over the age of two.  That means in order to have healthy relationships we need to understand how “humans” work. Let me emphasize that knowing about how humans work is not an invitation to manipulate or “work” a human for your own gain.   It is about learning to maintain your internal balance while engaging in relationship.  I believe it is time to focus on the right end of things.  What do you think?

Are you interested in learning more about relationship while partnering with your horse or discovering a horse for the first time?  Stay tuned for some late summer early fall retreats!

This makes a great deal of sense to me! As a Sagittarius, I know that my “back half” which is the horse can be quite stubborn and difficult to move. But treat me right, don’t try to “yank” me to get me what you want to do but steer me and figure out how I move, what I do…you’ve earned your place. On the subject of how we treat one another…grabbing the horse by the mouth reminds me of “you can lead the horse to water….” and isn’t this true of all of us?
