It’s apple blossom festival in Wenatchee. I know Spring by the blossoms – cots, cherries, peaches, apple and pears. This year we had a very early cherry blossom and then the weather slowed things down. We seem to be on schedule for a normal cherry and fruit season. At least normal in the sense that the cherries will be ready to harvest close to their usual harvest time.
All this focus on blossoming and celebration got me to thinking about humans and what it means to blossom in our own way. In doing a little research, I discovered there are some plants that blossom only once in their lifespan.
Did you know that there is one plant that blooms once in 3,000 years?? Now that is long lifespan!

And, there are others that bloom once in 10 years, and the rare palm tree blossoms once in a 100 years and then dies.
So are humans more like the once in a lifetime plant or annuals? I suppose it depends on how you define blooming.
Looking back I can see that I have blossomed many times to this point. I certainly flourished in the horse-world for many years. I thrived in the world of education and continue to thrive as a consultant who leads others to open up to new possibilities.
I think as humans we have the potential to bloom and blossom in all parts of our lives. For me “blooming” has been a slow process, as I have staked my claim of my own self-expression as a woman, daughter, friend, lover and creative, spiritual pragmatist and being in this world. And it has taken serious weed pulling to get here.
As I think about cultivating a garden and all the attention it takes to bring about a living expression of color and life, there have been times when I have not attended to my internal garden. At times I have given my garden more tender, loving care than I have myself. As I take more seriously that there is a Divine plan at work; that I not only belong, but I have a purpose to share with others who exist in the garden called Earth. I find I am being more present to the moment. I find that this is the moment I am called to open to and to flourish and bloom – right here and now.
Where are you blooming in your life? What nutrients such as love, compassion, delight, and joy do you need to add to feed your life? Will you give yourself permission to bloom in all of your expressions as a human? The season is calling…
Until next time,
