What Story Do You Tell?

Once upon a time in my life story I believed… I can’t tell you how many times my story has changed as I have learned more or even gotten tired of what I had been telling. Humans are storytellers and I am no exception.  I have had sad stories, mad stories, and stories about my excuses and fears.  It wasn’t until I decided to give up being a closet victim that my stories have really changed.

Like all explorers, we are drawn to discover what’s waiting without knowing yet if we have the courage to face it
– Pema Chodron

Have you ever told a story over and over?  Have you ever used a story as a crutch because you didn’t feel brave enough to go after something different?

The stories we tell shape our lives. They express our values and our beliefs.  And, often they hold us in patterns that prevent us from getting what we want or obtaining our dreams.

What is your current story about your body? Your finances? Your relationships?  Your job? Is it time to write a new story and live into that story?

I journal in the morning and lately I have begun to notice patterns or stories that have been stopping me from taking action toward my dreams.  My new trick is to write “what if” journal entries that are helping me try on different possibilities.

Life takes courage.  It takes courage to move past old stories.  Are you ready to leave some stories behind?

Until next time,

HI LeeAnn, I’ve always had a story, I think some of those stories were repeated for therapy…to help me move on. Then I added more stories, what I ended up with was a unique portfolio or blended book of happenings that has helped me with my self confidence, my self worth and has helped me to realize that there is a plan that I need to follow…so I’m out looking for new stories to add to the mix and maybe oneday, something big will come from those stories..

I like it, the stories will never change, they will remain the same no matter how many times we tell them to others or to ourselves. We have to get to a point where it doesn’t matter anymore, it’s ok to let go and live…

Yes Valaree, we have to let go. Our stories always come from our perception and point of view. It is almost impossible to take a historical story and see from another point view. In a “present” time story we can ask questions, get curious, and even not take things personally – allow a neutral point of view. (by that I mean we can simply say we don’t know what to make out of actions or comments and let it go).

It is freeing to us to just turn the page, close the book or disengage from an old story. (if we want to be happy!)
