Borrowing Freedom

“In riding a horse, we borrow freedom.”
— Helen Thompson
Maybe we have to borrow freedom before we can claim freedom for our very own. What does freedom really mean? Does it assume we have to fight for something? Go to war for something? Try to capture it as though it was a scarce commodity?
I took a trip to the dictionary to explore both the word origin and the definition of freedom. I settled on the World English Dictionary definition to explore:
- Freedom is a noun
- It is about exercising personal liberty
- It is liberation from bondage or confinement
- It is a state of being
- It is a state of being without something unpleasant
- It is the power or liberty to authorize our own action
- It is a state of independence
- It is the ease and grace of movement – lack of effort
- It is boldness
- It is ease of frankness – candor
Are you living a life of freedom?
And if not, why not?
I have discovered that there are areas in my life that I have freedom; and other areas where I am my own best jailer. When I am under the trance of scarcity – (there is never enough time, money or resources to do what I want to do) I find I can be powerless to move beyond the bondage of my own mind. In fact, I can create a mental movie in which I go from secure to homeless in less than 30 seconds.
Have you ever scared yourself with one of your own internal movies?
When I am in a moment of mental bondage, I reach out and tell my day-mare to a sister-cowgirl. I take a moment and return to this present moment. I find freedom in my breath. I remember what is true right now. I still borrow freedom from a horse from time to time. In those moments I am present to the truth of being free in mind, body and soul. I invite you to borrow freedom if you need to. The lives we are here to lead require an intimate relationship with Freedom.
I know I am still in the “get-to-know-ya” stage.
Let Freedom come out and play.
And be sure to share your private dance with Freedom…
Your Sister Cowgirls & Cowboys would love to be inspired by your stories and noticings.
