Soul Country℠

Soul Country℠ is not a physical location. It is not a place on a map nor an external destination. Soul Country℠ is a state of the heart and like those who homesteaded and were pioneers of the Western expansion, it is a conscious way of being.

Once you know how to find your way to Soul Country, you can access it at anytime from anywhere. Curious yet?

Having grown up in Eastern Washington, with the wide open spaces of the wheat fields to the back roads of farming country, I have observed there are differences in how people live their lives and what they are connected to. It seems that the closer we are to nature and the land, the easier it is to be inspired by the majesty and the mystery of life.

I love watching the full moon rise over the Columbia breaks, the pitch black night sky filled with the brilliance of star light, being aware of the change in the seasons especially right now as signs of new life are springing up everywhere. The country and nature have kept me connected to the real nature of our Source. In that connection I am aware of the energy of life.

The energy of life lives in our hearts, not our heads. The one and only requirement necessary to finding and entering Soul Country is our willingness to leave our heads and all that has been stuffed into it by our culture, families and religion. Like those who heard the call of the West, we must leave behind our treasured beliefs and enter into a state of beginners mind. As we wind our way into our hearts, challenging our assumptions, our unchallenged stories and even our “reasons” for avoiding the journey, we are asked to commit to answering the call.

I have ventured into Soul Country and retreated several times. Like a scout in the wilderness, I have observed and reported back what I have seen. I have tried to make head meaning rather than heart meaning of the journey. I started out in a wagon with my most precious treasures being lugged along. What I have come to realize is that what I thought were treasures were really borrowed ideas of life. Like those before me I have been discarding the weight of those ideas as I move toward the new and fresh understanding. At the last outpost I traded the wagon for a horse – my sacred partner on this journey.

I realize now that I need to travel light. My journal and stretch pad are my important companions for this journey. They are the tools of connection with my invisible guide and companion – Source.

I don’t know if you are called to journey into Soul Country. What I know is that I am called to share with you my journey.

I’d love to hear of your journey, of what you are learning or have learned. Drop me a note, or share a comment.

Happy Trails,
